The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reported approximately 5,000 manhole-related injuries annually in the U.S. The most common types of injuries include finger amputations, torn rotator cuffs, back, shoulder and neck injuries from lifting heavy manhole lids, and crushing injuries to hands and feet.
